The YMCA of Greater New York is dedicated to empowering youth, improving health, and strengthening community. The Park Slope Armory YMCA seeks a Day Camp Director responsible for leading the day camp program, supervising staff and volunteers, managing finances, and overseeing daily operations. The Director ensures delivery of quality programming aligned with Y and funder standards, and maintains relationships with staff, school partners, funders, donors, caregivers, and community organizations.

Summer Day Camp operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., July through August.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure health, safety, and well-being of participants by adhering to risk management and safety procedures.
  • Report incidents following Y policies.
  • Supervise staff and volunteers, providing support, coaching, and performance management.
  • Promote an inclusive, respectful environment that values diversity and fosters positive camp spirit.
  • Plan and execute all camp activities, including STEM, literacy, and memory books, coordinating facility use.
  • Maintain accurate documentation (attendance, sign-in/out, behavior, incident reports).
  • Manage staff schedules and payroll via ADP; track volunteer hours.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and participation.
  • Communicate YMCA’s core values and program goals to staff, participants, and families.
  • Develop and deliver orientation for families, covering safety, rules, schedules, and information.
  • Maintain positive communication with guardians and community members throughout the summer.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries and complaints.
  • Support pre-camp training in partnership with the Office and Youth & Family Director.
  • Participate in training, meetings, and events.
  • Ensure compliance with health, YMCA, and funder standards and regulations.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree related to youth work.
  • At least 2 years managing a high-volume day camp and supervising staff.
  • Y-USA Day Camp Director training and certification required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker, Photoshop preferred.
