Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Data Center Technician with a strong background in fiber optic testing, troubleshooting, and splicing to support critical data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have 5–7 years of hands‑on fiber optic experience and be highly skilled in using OTDRs and power meters to test, diagnose, and resolve fiber issues. This role serves as the primary field response technician for multiple data center sites within a designated region, ensuring reliable network connectivity and rapid resolution of fiber‑related problems. Candidates with extensive data center experience and a strong fiber optics background (rather than copper or Cat5 cabling) are highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fiber optic testing, troubleshooting, and certification using OTDRs, power meters, and related test equipment.
  • Install, terminate, splice, and repair single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber optic cabling.
  • Respond to service calls and emergency outages across multiple data center locations.
  • Diagnose fiber network issues and implement timely corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret fiber optic network diagrams, splice plans, and technical documentation.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and verify network performance after repairs or installations.
  • Maintain accurate testing records and documentation for completed work.
  • Follow all safety procedures and industry best practices while working in data center environments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to ensure timely completion of projects and service requests.
Required Qualifications
  • 5–7 years of experience working with fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with OTDR testing (required).
  • Proficiency using fiber optic power meters and other fiber testing equipment.
  • Experience performing fusion splicing and fiber optic cable terminations.
  • Strong background working with fiber optic networks rather than copper or Cat5/Cat6 cabling.
  • Experience supporting or working within data center environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex fiber optic issues independently.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and fiber network documentation.
  • Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel locally between customer sites within the assigned region as needed.
