Job summary

Programmers.io in Texas is seeking a Data Center Technician to maintain operations, diagnose hardware and network issues, and support on-site data center teams.

You will travel up to 10% and participate in rotating on-call shifts, install and provision equipment, and develop documentation and scripts to automate server and network tasks.

Qualifications

• Hands-on hardware troubleshooting and repair in data center environments.
• Experience with Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
• Familiarity with network equipment and diagnostics is a plus.

Job description

• Essential duties include the ability to respond to on-site equipment failures or emergencies within 60 minutes while on scheduled on-call.

Who You Are:

• Computer Hardware experience (troubleshooting| assembling)Linux Operating System experience.
• Ability to regularly transport and position equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods to perform diagnostic and repair tasks.
• Ability to maneuver in cramped or elevated spaces| such as under-floor areas or on ladders| to access server racks.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills| such as handling small hardware components and cables.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule within a 24/7 environment| including participating in a rotating on-call shift.
• Excellent time management| organizational| and communication skills.
• Must be able to prioritize tasks and react quickly to issues.
• Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled data center.
• Candidates must be able to perform essential job duties in an environment with fluctuating temperatures and variable airflow - specifically within designated hot and cold aisles - ranging from 60F to 90F.

Preferred:

• Hands-on OR education-based experience with any of the following areas: Computer Hardware| including troubleshooting and repair skills experience
• Computer Networking experience
• Python| Bash| or other scripting languages experience
• Experience with Cisco IOS and/or Juniper JunOS
• An Associates Degree or equivalent experience in an IT-related field
