Job description

Overview

Lead Technician, under the guidance of the Supervisor and Project Manager, will manage all phases of Datacenter installation Projects. The Lead Technician must be able to think strategically and demonstrate leadership. They will assume total ownership from receipt of the completed engineering work package to project completion and final documentation. The Lead Technician must provide excellent customer service and deliver projects according to customer expectations.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Responsibility for job layout and execution planning.
  • Staying current with latest technologies and installation procedures.
  • Understanding and accurately completing all project paperwork.
  • Managing small to large projects as required.
  • Ensuring quality installation craftsmanship and customer service excellence according to Vision standards.
  • Installation and termination of copper and fiber products per TIA/EIA and BICSI standards.
  • Testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber cable systems in accordance with standards.
  • Directing team assembly, installation, and securing of cable trays, racks, and cabinets.
  • Understanding grounding and bonding principles per BICSI methods.
  • Proficiency in operating and managing test results from Vision’s Cat5, Cat5E, Cat6 testers, fiber power meters, and OTDRs.
  • Interpreting test results and troubleshooting cable plant issues to ensure valid testing outcomes.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • BICSI and industry certifications preferred; knowledge of fiber troubleshooting needed.
  • Ability to drive company vehicle.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs, climb ladders, stand for long periods.
  • Reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Certifications:

  • Preferred: BICSI Installer 2, manufacturer certifications, OSHA 10/30, HILTI powder tools, Confined Space.
