OpenAI is seeking a Hardware Operations Engineer to serve as the technical authority for hardware reliability and fleet health at one of our flagship campuses. You will diagnose complex issues, drive RCA efforts, and collaborate with OEMs, manufacturing, and cloud operations to maintain production readiness.

The role requires deep hands-on datacenter hardware expertise, strong troubleshooting, and cross-functional leadership, with onsite work 5 days a week and occasional travel for new campus

Competenze

• 8+ years in large-scale datacenter hardware operations or sustaining engineering.
• Deep expertise with server platforms, GPU systems, and storage infrastructure.
• Experience diagnosing complex hardware failures in production environments.
• Root cause analysis and long-term corrective actions.
• Strong understanding of fleet-health management and reliability.
• Ability to partner across engineering, operations, manufacturing and vendors.
• Willingness to sit onsite at datacenters 5 days a week.

Mansioni

• Drive triage and resolution of hardware failures impacting production systems.
• Partner with Fleet Health Engineering to investigate recurring issues and identify failure patterns.
• Lead root cause analysis efforts and develop corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate repairs, replacements, upgrades, and lifecycle activities with providers.
• Establish and improve hardware maintenance procedures and runbooks.
• Analyze failure trends and operational metrics to identify reliability risks.
• Support new hardware introductions and production readiness reviews.
• Coordinate spare parts strategy with supply chain and site teams.
• Provide field feedback to improve future platform designs.
• Develop scalable operational standards for future Stargate campuses.
• Mentor on-site technicians and cross-functional teams.
