Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support the Department of Transportation, combining data engineering and database administration across MariaDB, SQL Server, and Databricks environments. You will design scalable Databricks solutions, oversee ETL/ELT pipelines, and administer enterprise databases while collaborating with stakeholders and vendor teams.

The role requires a strong background in Databricks, SQL Server, MariaDB, and cloud/ETL tooling, along with U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
• 5+ years in data engineering, database admin or development.
• Hands-on Databricks experience.
• Experience administering SQL Server and/or MariaDB databases.
• Advanced SQL with stored procedures, functions and triggers.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools.
• Experience with security, access management, backups and DR.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a federal Public Trust.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable Databricks solutions and ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Apply Databricks development standards and data engineering best practices.
• Administer and monitor MariaDB and SQL Server environments.
• Design databases, schemas, tables, views, and procedures.
• Perform configuration, backups, DR, and performance tuning.
• Optimize queries, indexes, and data pipelines for performance.
• Configure availability groups, mirroring, clusters, and security.
• Model data and support data warehousing and lineage.
• Ensure data security, auditing, and access control.
• Troubleshoot complex data pipeline issues.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and vendor teams.
• Translate requirements into secure, scalable data solutions.
• Deliver technical demos and support proposals.
