Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our team supporting the Department of Transportation (DOT). This candidate will blend data engineering and database administration across MariaDB, SQL Server, and Databricks environments.

The role requires strong SQL, Databricks, and ETL/ELT expertise, with a focus on security, performance, and collaboration with multiple stakeholder teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
• 5+ years in data engineering, database administration, or development.
• Hands-on Databricks experience.
• Experience administering SQL Server and/or MariaDB databases.
• Advanced SQL skills and data pipeline optimization.
• Proficiency in Python/Java/Scala.
• ETL/ELT pipelines with Airflow or AWS Glue.
• Security, access management, and disaster recovery.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable Databricks solutions and ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Apply Databricks development standards and data engineering best practices.
• Administer and monitor MariaDB and SQL Server environments.
• Design databases, schemas, tables, views, procedures, functions, and triggers.
• Perform backup, restore, performance tuning, and DR.
• Optimize queries, indexes, objects, pipelines, and server performance.
• Configure availability groups, mirroring, clusters, encryption, and reporting servers.
• Model data, relational design, data warehousing, quality, and lineage.
• Implement security, auditing, and access control.
• Troubleshoot database, app, and data pipeline issues.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, infra, network, and vendors.
• Translate requirements into secure, scalable data solutions.
• Deliver demos and support proposals.
