Job summary

Q2 is seeking a production database platform manager to own availability, performance, and recoverability across a multi-engine estate (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Aurora, Snowflake, MongoDB, Pinecone) on AWS with Azure knowledge helpful.

The role requires leading engineers, driving modernization, and building self-service tooling while controlling costs and governance. Strong English communication and US work authorization are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; 6+ years experience; or advanced degree with 4+ years.
• 1-2 years managing and developing employees.
• Deep SQL Server expertise: Always On, multi-region HA/DR, perf troubleshooting, licensing economics.
• Ability to lead engineers across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Aurora, Snowflake, MongoDB, Pinecone.
• Strong AWS depth on EC2; Azure knowledge useful.
• Track record of defining and driving programs end-to-end; migration initiatives.
• Hands-on AI ability to build observability and tooling quickly.
• Strong judgment under pressure and ownership bias.
• Familiarity with security, compliance, and operations; financial services experience preferred.
• Fluent English written and spoken; authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Own production: availability, performance, recoverability across multi-engine estate.
• Act as incident-command backstop to carry any bad day.
• Set direction and mentor engineers; align with stakeholders.
• Champion build-your-own tooling and self-service vs vendor solutions.
• Drive AI-driven observability into the stack and tooling.
• Grow the team; conduct honest performance conversations.
• Own economics: licensing, annual true-up, storage, cost-to-serve.
• Define availability-group and DR design standards, security governance.
• Lead modernization: migrations and cross-engine consolidation.
• Establish engineering rhythms, KPIs, and cross-team collaboration.
