Position: Database Optimizer Engineer

Duration: 6+ Months contract, renewable every 6 months

Job summary:

We are seeking a Database Optimizer Engineer to conduct leading-edge research and development in data management systems for scalable and high-performance massively parallel processing (MPP) database systems supporting analytic and transactional applications in the cloud. The ideal candidate enjoys tackling technical challenges related to evaluating complex distributed data processing systems. Candidates should possess significant database knowledge and experience in query optimization, transaction processing, and high availability. Versatility and a passion for building high-quality enterprise software are essential.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Research and develop cutting-edge optimizer technologies for MPP database management systems, focusing on cloud readiness.
2. Analyze requirements and research related technologies in optimizer areas for MPP databases.
3. Collaborate with architects and engineers to develop proof-of-concept systems and components.
4. Write and maintain detailed testing designs and specifications.
5. Perform design and code reviews.
6. Minimum 5 years of experience in research and development of DBMS with a Master’s degree in CS or a relevant field, or 7 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree.
7. Excellent documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
8. Extensive experience with system software development.
9. Knowledge of database technologies including parallel query optimization, distributed transaction processing, workload management, and high availability features.
10. Knowledge of machine learning.
11. Knowledge of graph computing and information theory is a plus.
12. Experience with PostgreSQL kernel is a plus.
13. Must be a team player.
14. Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
