Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and database technologies and performance tuning.

Title: Database Engineer
Location: Plano, TX (Onsite)
Type: Contract
Description:
  • We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer to design, maintain, optimize, and support enterprise-scale database environments.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database administration, performance tuning, Azure cloud technologies, and database modernization initiatives.
  • This role is responsible for ensuring database availability, reliability, scalability, and security while supporting critical business applications.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer, maintain, and support large-scale production database environments.
  • Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity.
  • Perform database performance analysis, troubleshooting, and fine tuning to optimize system efficiency.
  • Design and implement database solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies.
  • Support database deployments, upgrades, patching, and system maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with application development teams to optimize database design and SQL queries.
  • Implement and enforce database security, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and database standards.
  • Participate in on-call support and incident resolution activities as needed.
  • Support cloud database platforms and assist with database modernization initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting large-scale enterprise database environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with relational database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instance, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and database technologies.
  • Proven expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks.
  • Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, replication, and high-availability solutions.
  • Experience with database monitoring and performance management tools.
  • Knowledge of database security best practices and data governance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Database migration experience (on-premises to Azure Cloud or cloud-to-cloud migrations) is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Azure Database Migration Service (DMS) and database modernization projects.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or ARM templates.
  • Knowledge of automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical, high-volume transactional database environments.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications or database-related certifications are a plus.
