Job description

Job summary

Database Architect role focused on designing and optimizing cloud-based data and application architectures using Azure SQL Managed Instance and major public cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, and Azure. The role requires deep experience in enterprise-scale solution design, cloud migration, and modernization with a hybrid work model and day shift. Exposure to the life and annuities insurance domain is beneficial for aligning solutions to business outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Design and document end-to-end cloud-based architectures that leverage Azure SQL Managed Instance and complementary services to deliver secure, scalable and resilient business platforms that align with organizational strategy and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Drive modernization of legacy data and application estates by defining migration blueprints to Azure, AWS or GCP that minimize disruption, optimize cost and improve performance while maintaining regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Evaluate current enterprise workloads and data flows to identify opportunities for consolidation, optimization and replatforming onto Azure SQL Managed Instance and cloud native services, improving reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineering, application development, and operations teams to translate business requirements into detailed architectural patterns and reference implementations that can be adopted across programs.
  • Establish and advocate cloud and data architecture standards covering security, resilience, integration, observability, and governance to ensure consistent implementation across hybrid environments.
  • Guide solution teams in selecting appropriate cloud services, instance types, network topologies and storage options for Azure, AWS and GCP with a focus on cost-effectiveness, performance, and maintainability.
  • Provide architectural oversight during design, build and deployment phases by reviewing technical designs, performing risk assessments and recommending mitigation strategies that keep solutions aligned with approved patterns.
  • Define non-functional requirements for key initiatives, including scalability, availability, disaster recovery, performance, and data protection, and ensure these are engineered and validated in delivered solutions.
  • Partner with security and compliance stakeholders to embed data protection, access control and audit capabilities into Azure SQL Managed Instance and cloud solutions to support organizational risk management objectives.
  • Support ongoing optimization of production workloads by analyzing utilization metrics, incident trends, and query performance on Azure SQL Managed Instance and related services, then proposing targeted improvements.
  • Communicate complex architectural concepts in clear and practical terms to technical and non-technical stakeholders, enabling informed decisions about cloud adoption and investment priorities.
  • Contribute to reusable assets such as architecture templates, patterns, and best practice guides to accelerate future projects and maintain consistency across the enterprise cloud landscape.
  • Align architectural decisions and roadmaps with the organization's purpose by emphasizing solutions that enhance customer experience, improve operational resilience and support sustainable business growth in society.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrate extensive hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions using Azure SQL Managed Instance, including sizing configuration, performance tuning and integration with data and application layers.
  • Show strong expertise with major cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS and GCP, including use of core compute, storage, networking and platform services to build enterprise-grade solutions.
  • Exhibit a deep understanding of the Azure ecosystem, such as identity data services integration tools and monitoring capabilities, to design robust end-to-end solutions in hybrid environments.
  • Apply a solid background in enterprise architecture or solution architecture roles over fifteen to nineteen years with proven experience delivering large-scale cloud or data modernization programs.
  • Utilize knowledge of the life and annuities insurance domain when applicable to shape data models, integration flows, and solution features that align with industry-specific processes and regulatory expectations.
  • Employ strong skills in documenting architecture artifacts, including diagrams, standards, and decision records, to ensure transparency and traceability for delivery and operations teams.
  • Display capability in working within hybrid work models and collaborating across distributed teams using modern tooling and practices while maintaining clear communication and accountability.
