Database Architect - Cloud Data Modernization

Location: Remote

Clearance: Ability to obtain U.S. DoD Security Clearance

We are seeking a Database Architect with hands-on experience in cloud database design, deployment automation, and legacy data migration. This role is central to enabling secure, performant, and scalable data architectures across Azure and AWS environments that support enterprise analytics, reporting, and master data management strategies.


Position Overview:

As a Database Architect, you will design, deploy, and optimize cloud-native databases and data models that form the backbone of our customers' modernization efforts. You will apply your technical expertise to migrate legacy on-premises databases, automate deployment and monitoring processes, and architect integrated, cloud-based data repositories. Your work will support data-driven missions through scalable infrastructure and long-term maintainability aligned with DevSecOps and CI/CD best practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design scalable cloud data models and database architectures that meet business and mission needs
  • Develop and maintain automated deployment and monitoring code for cloud database infrastructure
  • Lead or contribute to data and database migration from legacy on-premises systems to Azure or AWS cloud platforms
  • Support the development of reusable templates and instantiation patterns for cloud-based database provisioning
  • Optimize performance and ensure technical viability of integrated master data repositories in the cloud
  • Collaborate with DevOps, infrastructure, and data analytics teams to align data systems with CI/CD pipelines and security standards
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune database systems in cloud environments for performance and reliability
  • Support analytics, reporting, and visualization use cases through well-structured, accessible data stores

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with database deployment, configuration, and performance optimization
  • 3+ years of experience migrating databases and data from on-premises environments to Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience with cloud and traditional relational databases, including:
    • Azure: Azure SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Azure Cosmos DB
    • AWS: RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MariaDB
  • Experience with cloud-based data analytics platforms such as Azure Synapse, SQL Data Warehouse, and data lakes
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI or Tableau for data visualization and reporting
  • Proficiency in implementing automated database deployment and monitoring solutions
  • Strong SQL skills and understanding of data transformation and optimization strategies
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools for database management (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting government cloud platforms (Azure Government, AWS GovCloud)
  • Understanding of DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines in cloud-native environments
  • Experience with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes and Docker
  • Familiarity with Git-based workflows using GitHub or GitLab
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain
  • IAT Level II certification or ability to obtain within 6 months

The compensation range for this role is up to 170k based on the function, education, experience and qualifications of the applicants.
