Job description

DESCRIPTION

Position fills the role of the Database Administrator for core enterprise applications and databases. Under the direction of the Director of Enterprise Applications and Data Protection, incumbent plans, prioritizes, and manages various district database management duties, including security, data warehousing, client access, management of ERP-related web applications, system upgrades, tuning, performance optimization, designing forms, writing complex queries, training users, ensuring campus-wide data integrity, and other related work as assigned.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  1. Recommend and assist in the implementation of Ellucian Banner, associated policies, and procedures. (E)
  2. Manage, supervise, and manipulate the Oracle and Ellucian Banner system. (E)
  3. Application management for Ellucian application suite, track and document all modules and patching cycles. (E)
  4. Track recommended regulatory/security patching cycles, upgrades from Ellucian and Oracle, and coordinate testing and deployment with key staff and departments. (E)
  5. Prepare and maintain system documentation, including backup and recovery procedures. (E)
  6. Manage deployment and maintenance of Ellucian Banner Admin Pages and Self-Service Banner. (E)
  7. Recognize and repair security flaws and enforce security standards compliance. (E)
  8. Coordinate security in an Oracle client/server distributed environment; administer user privileges, approvals, encryption keys, roles, and security. (E)
  9. Provide end-user training on security issues as needed. (E)
  10. Manage access to rules tables, query and update security, and handle user IDs and passwords for Unix and Oracle. (E)
  11. Perform table maintenance as necessary. (E)
  12. Create and update electronic approval queues. (E)
  13. Participate in meetings related to assignments; attend staff and college committee meetings as necessary. (E)
  14. Manage software including Oracle, Microsoft SQL, and MySQL databases. (E)
  15. Develop processes to optimize database security. (E)
  16. Perform performance tuning of database systems. (E)
  17. Create automation for repetitive database tasks. (E)
  18. Maintain knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards. (E)
  19. Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. AND

Seven (7) years of responsible experience in database administration, including three (3) years with large relational database systems and Unix, and three (3) years with other platforms like Oracle, SQL, MySQL.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Knowledge of systems analysis, data processing, documentation, programming languages (SQL, PL/SQL, C/C++, Unix shell scripts), web application deployment, cloud technologies (AWS, Google Cloud), workflow analysis, and user training.
  • Ability to analyze systems, develop solutions, collaborate, manage security, train staff, communicate effectively, and establish cooperative relationships.
