Astha IT is seeking a Database Administrator with 3 to 5 years of experience in Java and at least 2 years of hands-on expertise in databases, particularly PostgreSQL, for a key player in the maritime industry. The ideal candidate should be fluent in English and proficient in advanced database concepts such as ER modeling, normalization, and partitioning.

Technical Job Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, maintain, and tune database structures that support data integrity and efficiency, including ER modeling, normalization, and partitioning strategies.
• Administer and optimize PostgreSQL databases to ensure high performance, security, and reliability.
• Oversee database backups, restores, and recovery models to prevent data loss and enhance data availability.
• Develop and enforce database standards and procedures, ensuring best practices for database management and data security.
• Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks to maintain peak performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, performing root cause analysis to prevent future incidents.
• Implement database replication and high-availability configurations as needed.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize SQL queries and provide guidance on database schema changes.
• Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
• Document database architectures, processes, and procedures for ongoing maintenance and support.
• Participate in the agile software development lifecycle, providing feedback on database-related tasks.
• Execute SQL queries and data cleansing activities on behalf of non-technical staff members.

You must have the following skills in order to apply.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience and certifications.
• Demonstrated expertise in PostgreSQL, including advanced features such as partitioning and indexing strategies.
• Proficiency in database design principles, including ER modeling and normalization.
• Experience with database backup and recovery processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to take ownership of database-related tasks and projects, working both independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with development teams and business stakeholders.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• 3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a related role.
• Experience with advanced SQL, including stored procedures, functions, triggers, clustering, and partitioning.
• Knowledge of ETL processes and integration with databases.
• Experience with editing/monitoring tools such as pgAdmin, Nagios, or similar.
• Experience with non-SQL databases (e.g., Neo4J, MongoDB, CouchDB).

Academic Requirements:

Not much. If you can fulfill the aforementioned skill requirements, we don’t care about the academic backgrounds. Your skills matter. Certificates and CGPA are secondary.

But if you have a degree (Bachelors or Masters) in CS / CSC / CSE / Software Engineering, it’s a plus of course.

If you have a strong portfolio of complex applications/software/tools that you worked on, that would be terrific.
