Job summary

Apex Fintech Solutions is seeking a Senior-Plus level DBA to administer and optimize high-volume database systems across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Google Cloud services. The role emphasizes automation, reliability, and collaboration with engineering teams.

The position requires 5+ years of DBA experience, strong SQL skills, and expertise in GCP, BigQuery, and IaC tooling. A hybrid work setup is offered with core hours in Central Time.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience, preferably with Postgres and MongoDB.
• Experience administering PostgreSQL environments including replication.
• GCP Cloud SQL PostgreSQL knowledge and BigQuery experience a plus.
• Terraform / IaC and GitHub for managing database infrastructure changes.
• High-availability architectures and disaster recovery planning.

Responsibilities

• Implement database changes via IaC (Terraform + GitHub PRs).
• Manage large transactional replication with low-latency delivery; tune performance.
• Establish backup/restore, PITR, HA/failover testing, DR runbooks, and a database support plan.
• Collaborate with engineering on schema reviews, query optimization, and BigQuery governance; handle security tasks.
• Embrace DevOps: automate DB operations, CI/CD for DB changes, and monitoring/alerting.
• Support incident response and participate in on-call rotations (Central Time) and maintenance.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

About the Role Apex Fintech Solutions is seeking a Junior Database Administrator to administer, optimize, and support high-volume, highly available database systems across GCP managed services (Cloud SQL PostgreSQL, Memorystore for Redis/Valkey, AlloyDB, Spanner, BigQuery) as well as MongoDB and PostgreSQL.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Implement all database changes via IaC (Terraform + GitHub PRs).
• Manage large transactional replication with low-latency delivery, using BigQuery as a replication target; tune performance and cost.
• Establish backup/restore, PITR, HA/failover testing, DR runbooks, and an overall database support plan.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on schema reviews, query optimization, and BigQuery governance; handle security/audit tasks.
• Embrace DevOps: automate DB operations, manage CI/CD for DB changes, and modern monitoring/alerting.
• Support incident response and participate in on-call rotations (off-hours, Central Time) and scheduled maintenance (patching, VLDB index work, DR testing).

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of prior hands-on DBA experience, preferably with Postgres and MongoDB.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience required.
• Administering and optimizing PostgreSQL environments, including transactional replication expertise.
• GCP Cloud SQL PostgreSQL and solid PostgreSQL database management knowledge.
• Preferred: Memorystore for Redis, AlloyDB, Spanner, and BigQuery (incl. BigQuery performance tuning & admin).
• Preferred: other cloud DB platforms (Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
• Terraform / IaC and GitHub for managing database infrastructure changes.
• High-availability architectures and disaster recovery planning & execution.
• High-volume / fintech / securities transactional environment a plus.

Work Environment

This job operates in a hybrid office environment three days per week.
