Job Overview

The Database Administrator III will lead technical efforts in database administration, data system architecture, and emerging database technologies. This role provides guidance to ensure the integration of best practices into the database reliability team and is responsible for advanced troubleshooting of database servers. They will oversee the installation, implementation, configuration, maintenance, security, integrity, and performance of critical Microsoft SQL Server systems. Through research, they will identify opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of databases and their design.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Build, configure, and support Database Cloud Infrastructure On-premises and in Azure & AWS using industry standard deployment tools
  • Leverage New Relic monitoring and alerting
  • Partner with SRE to optimize application back-end database code
  • Leverage scripting and automation everywhere possible
  • Share advanced in-depth knowledge on supporting and troubleshooting databases like SQL, PostgreSQL, CockroachDB with junior DBAs
  • Provide technical guidance to the database administration team in daily operations
  • Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server and Postgres databases
  • Lead the resolution of complex database performance and scaling issues
  • Oversee and continuously ensure database security
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical database-related issues
  • Stay up to date with current industry trends and technology

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technology field or relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, managing, and supporting enterprise databases and data systems on MS SQL Server and some on PostgreSQL
  • 2+ years of experience managing databases and data systems in Azure and/or AWS
  • 2+ years of experience managing and supporting data systems backup and recovery, HA/Replication, and disaster recovery
  • 2+ years of experience with using automation and scripting in languages such as PowerShell, Perl, Python or Bash
  • Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban

Required Software Experience

  • ITIL IT Service Management framework
  • Monitoring tools, including New Relic
  • Expert level in Microsoft TSQL and PostgreSQL PSQL languages
  • Advanced knowledge of Azure Managed Instance and AWS RDS
  • Ability to optimize large, complicated SQL statements
  • Robust knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases
  • Extensive knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, PERL, etc.)
