Job summary

XPO Logistics, Inc. is seeking an experienced Database Administrator in Portland to manage Oracle databases, optimize SQL performance, and implement PL/SQL automation. You will collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure uptime, deploy new databases, and enforce best practices across projects.

The role emphasizes Oracle expertise, OCI/Exadata familiarity, and the ability to support developers with SQL reviews within a fast-paced logistics environment.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of database administration experience with Oracle Server.
  • Expertise in Oracle technologies, OCI, Exadata experience; familiar with OEM monitoring.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL, Oracle partitioning, and PL/SQL (2+ years).
  • Experience with Linux and shell scripting.
  • Experience with monitoring SQL performance and tuning (plan, baselines, profiles).
  • Experience developing PL/SQL Procedures/Packages and automation.
  • Experience managing deployment of DDL/DML to the database.
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts.
  • Ability to assist application developers with SQL review.

Responsibilities

  • Work extensively with Oracle databases.
  • Focus on SQL queries, plan review, and database administration.
  • Daily monitoring of SQL performance, up-time, and issue resolution.
  • Support database performance with infrastructure and application teams.
  • Act as liaison to define and follow best practices; drive consistency.
  • Support deployment of new databases, schemas, objects; ongoing maintenance.
  • Contribute to defining application database standards via data models.

What you’ll need to succeed as a Database Administrator at XPO
  • 2 years of database administration experience with Oracle Server
  • Expertise in Oracle technologies, OCI, Exadata experience, Familiarity with monitoring tools like OEM
  • Strong proficiency with SQL, Oracle partitioning, and knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL (2+ years)
  • Experience with Linux and shell scripting.
  • Experience with monitoring SQL performance and tuning (plan, baselines, profiles)
  • Experience developing PL/SQL Procedures/Packages and automation
  • Experience managing the deployment of DDL/DMLs to the database
  • Experience with CICD concepts
  • Ability to assist application developers with SQL review
Preferred qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience with database administration within Oracle
  • Deep knowledge/experience in the following: SQL, PL/SQL and Oracle DBA tasks
  • Able to stay current with emerging trends and database technologies
  • Able to quickly learn and achieve proficiency in new software applications and maintain a thorough knowledge of internal company software applications applicable to the position/business unit
  • Oracle Database Certification
  • Oracle Advanced Queues knowledgeData modeling skills and use of Entity-Relation (ER)

What you’ll do on a typical day:
  • Work extensively with Oracle databases.
  • Focus on SQL queries, plan review, and database administration.
  • Be responsible for daily monitoring of SQLs performance, up-time and drive resolution to technical issues.
  • Support database performance in the context of applications by working with the infrastructure and application teams
  • Act as a liaison between the project management, technical teams and IT leadership; assure best practices are defined and followed; drive consistency across applications and projects wherever possible
  • Support deployment of new databases, new schemas and new database objects and ongoing maintenance of the same
  • Contribute to defining application database standards by creating application data models
