Job summary

Horizontal Talent is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support energy operations across development, test, and production environments. You will work with Oracle and SQL Server, collaborating with application and infrastructure teams to improve reliability, performance, and data integrity.

You will administer backups, perform recovery and continuity activities, and tune performance to ensure high availability.

Qualifications

Job description

Join a senior database administration team supporting critical energy operations across regulated business areas. This role offers the opportunity to work with both Oracle and SQL Server environments, partnering closely with application and infrastructure teams to improve reliability, performance, and data integrity.

Responsibilities
  • Administer and support database environments across development, test, and production systems.
  • Perform database backup, recovery, and business continuity activities to help protect critical data.
  • Tune database performance and resolve issues affecting availability, stability, and efficiency.
  • Maintain database design standards, documentation, patching, and environment health.
  • Support capacity planning, data recovery processes, and ongoing data integrity efforts.
  • Partner with system administrators, developers, architects, and application support teams on projects and operational needs.
  • Provide technical consultation on database-related solutions and help ensure sound data management practices.
  • Contribute to data governance efforts and support informed, data-driven decision-making.
  • Assist with reporting and analytics needs tied to business requirements and operational insights.
Skills
  • Strong experience in SQL Server database administration, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, and business continuity.
  • Strong experience in Oracle database administration, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, and business continuity.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with stakeholders across different teams and organizational levels.
  • Solid problem-solving, analytical, and data governance skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively in cross-functional environments.
  • Knowledge of distributed computing, data architecture, statistical modeling, predictive modeling, and machine learning.
  • Ability to design, develop, and deliver reporting solutions that support business needs.
Preferred Skills
  • Hands-on knowledge of SQL Server versions 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Oracle versions 12c, 19c, and 21c.
  • Experience with SSIS package development and implementation, as well as reporting services.
  • Experience with database replication technologies such as mirroring, log shipping, and replication.
  • Experience with Oracle ASM, RAC, and Data Guard.
  • Experience supporting major version upgrades for Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Proficiency with T-SQL, PL/SQL, shell scripting, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with Windows/SQL Server clustering and AlwaysOn Failover Cluster.
  • Experience managing PostgreSQL and MySQL databases.
  • Bachelor's degree in technology, science, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
