Job summary

MVP Consulting Plus is seeking an Expert Oracle Database Administrator for a 30-month contract in the New York area. The role requires deep RMAN, OEM, RAC/ASM/Data Guard expertise and strong security knowledge.

You will support database installation, tuning, backup validation and cross-team collaboration. Responsibilities include on-AIX maintenance, capacity planning, and mentoring staff while handling after-hours tasks when required.

Qualifications

• 84 months of experience with RMAN Backup/Recovery.
• 84 months using Oracle Enterprise Manager for monitoring and analysis.
• 84 months as an Oracle DBA in an AIX/Unix environment.
• 60 months supporting OBIEE and Oracle BI Applications.
• 84 months with Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard and related security.
• 24 months maintaining Oracle databases on AIX for SAP/Forms/Reports.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Database team with installation, configuration and hardening, backup validation, performance tuning and monitoring.
• Install, upgrade and maintain Oracle databases on AIX including backup and recovery.
• Allocate storage and plan future storage for the database system.
• Collaborate with developers and system architects to meet business goals.
• Perform off-hours work for maintenance tasks as needed.
• Provide support for internal users and external data exchange partners.
• Conduct capacity planning, trend usage, and adjust resources as needed.
• Provide recommendations on technical architecture and Oracle security.
• Mentor other database staff and provide training.
• Handle ITSM Requests and Incidents and perform root cause analysis.

Project Description

Assist the Database team with various ongoing tasks, including but not limited to database installation, configuration and hardening, backup validation, performance tuning and general database monitoring. Provide support to Application Development staff.

Day-to-Day Tasks

• Assist the Database team with various ongoing tasks, including but not limited to database installation, configuration and hardening, backup validation, performance tuning and general database monitoring, as well as recommend best practices and procedures;
• Install, upgrade and maintain Oracle databases on AIX, including backup and recovery;
• Allocating storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system;
• Work with teams of application programmers, system architects to create solutions to meet business goals;
• Perform off-hours (evening or weekend work) as needed for emergency or maintenance tasks;
• Provide support for internal users and external data exchange partners;
• Perform optimization and tuning activities, including capacity planning, tracking historical usage, trending future resource needs, and modifying resource allocations as needed;
• Provides recommendations on technical architecture;
• Provides recommendations on Oracle Advance Security including TDE, Oracle Wallet and remote authentication;
• Provides hands-on training and mentoring for other database administrative staff.
• Provide support to Application Development staff. Perform root cause analysis and recommend remediation for issues that arise.
• Handle Requests and Incidents submitted through ITSM tickets.

Required Qualifications

• 84 months of experience with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN). This experience includes: Backup and Repository Configuration & Maintenance as well as Implementation of RMAN Backup & Recovery using Commvault.
• 84 months of experience installing, upgrading, patching and using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to monitor and analyze database issues and find solutions to correct the problems.
• 84 months of experience as an Oracle DBA in AIX/Unix environment. This experience includes: database implementations, upgrades, conversions and consolidations, database compliance, security, and auditing including Oracle Advanced Security, remote authentication, and Oracle wallet configuration.
• 60 months of experience installing/maintaining/tuning databases that support OBIEE and Oracle Business Intelligence Application software.
• 84 months of experience with Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC), Oracle Automatic Storage Management (Oracle ASM) and Oracle Automatic Storage Management Cluster File System, Oracle Data Guard and Oracle Database Security.
• 24 months of experience maintaining Oracle databases on AIX that support SAP Business Object Info View, and applications that use Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
