Job summary

Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is seeking a Data Visualization Intern for the iDeas Lab. You will translate datasets into graphs and infographics to feature in CSIS publications, collaborating with researchers and designers to bring policy research to life on the web and in print.

The ideal candidate has a solid design background and strong communication skills, with a passion for data, design, technology, and foreign policy.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in information design, data visualization, computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of experience in data visualization design.
• Solid understanding of data visualization best practices and design principles.
• Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, SVG, and HTML syntax.
• Ability to handle tabular data, export CSV files, and perform basic spreadsheet calculations.
• Experience receiving feedback and iterating on designs.
• Strong interest in global affairs and public policy.

Responsibilities

• Design data visualizations using Flourish and Datawrapper; create infographics.
• Help researchers and analysts communicate findings with data.
• Collaborate with iDeas Lab designers to merge visuals with publication layouts.
• Gather feedback from clients to continually improve products.
• Support design and layout of reports and presentations for print and digital.
