SEIU-UHW is seeking a Data & System Engineer to expand and optimize reporting capabilities and system architecture. You will manage Salesforce.com, build data pipelines, and support developers, analysts, and data specialists on data and system initiatives.

The role requires strong SQL, data modeling, and cross-functional collaboration, with focus on security, backups, and disaster recovery. This is a full-time, on-site position based in California.

Qualifications

  • BS in Information Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with SQL-Server: queries, views, procedures, security, tables.
  • Experience with business warehouse tools and concepts.
  • Salesforce security, administration, and change management.
  • Certifications in Salesforce are beneficial.
  • Ability to design and implement new processes.
  • Build apps/objects, workflows, and metadata in Salesforce.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary system administrator for all applications.
  • Lead administrative functions including user maintenance, reports and dashboards.
  • Develop and support reporting and dashboards, including third party solutions.
  • Manage reporting and data solutions including Salesforce.com and other third-party solutions.
  • Manage security including roles, profiles and sharing rules.
  • Maintain and create workflows, validations, configurations within the system landscape.
  • Ensure data integrity by cleansing data, merging duplicates, mass data loads.
  • Manage data migration for all systems.
  • Complete regular system audits and maintain exception logs.
  • Provide solutions and maintain strategies around system backups and disaster recovery.
  • Provide user support including troubleshooting issues.

Description

Position Summary:

This multi-faceted position will be responsible for expanding and optimizing SEIU-UHW’s reporting capabilities and system architecture. This position will be responsible for both managing the company’s Salesforce.com instance (system configuration, system management, and data ownership) as well as expanding data systems and building them from the ground up. The Data & System Engineer will support our software developers, database architects, data analysts and data specialist on both data and system initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. Key responsibilities include security, system configuration, data management, routine maintenance, back‑ups, disaster recovery, integrations, reports and dashboards.

Requirements
Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Serve as the primary system administrator for all applications.
  • Responsible for leading all administrative functions including user maintenance, reports and dashboards.
  • Develop and support reporting and dashboards, including third party solutions.
  • Responsible for and manage all reporting and data solutions including Salesforce.com and other third-party solutions.
  • Manage security including roles, profiles and sharing rules.
  • Maintain, enhance and create workflows, validations, functions and configurations within our system landscape.
  • Ensure data integrity by cleansing data, merging duplicate data, performing mass data loads and updates and deprecating unnecessary fields.
  • Manage all integration and migration of data for all systems.
  • Complete regular system audits and maintain exception logs.
  • Provide solutions and maintain strategies around system back‑ups and disaster recovery.
  • Provide user support including troubleshooting simple to complex issues.
  • Keep up with Salesforce releases and report back to the business any potential impacts the release will have to the company’s Salesforce instance.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to management in the areas of process improvement and suggestions around continuous improvement.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected dataset.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work long and varying hours, including weekends, nights and holiday.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Experience and Skills
  • BS in Information Science or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in SQL-Server writing queries, views, stored procedures, security permissions, and creating tables
  • Experience with business warehouse tools and concepts
  • Salesforce security, administration, and change management
  • Salesforce certification recommended
  • Proven ability to design and implement new processes
  • Strong understanding of the platform, with the ability to build custom apps and objects, formula fields, workflows, custom views, and other content of intermediate complexity
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce.com best practices and functionality
  • A demonstrated ability to understand and articulate complex requirements
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as a team lead on projects
  • Experience in union or other nonprofit environment particularly valuable
  • Process oriented
  • High attention to detail
