Job summary

UC Santa Barbara, through the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS), seeks a Data Systems Analyst 2 to manage ecologically relevant data from the Arctic Data Center and other funded projects. You will edit metadata, perform data quality analyses, and model data to support synthesis activities.

You will work with the Director of Informatics Research and Development and with Scientific Programmers to streamline data management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in environmental, ecological, or related fields involving data management.
• Experience in scripted statistical frameworks such as R or Matlab is required.
• Excellent writing and speaking skills in English for a science audience.
• Strong organizational and problem solving skills; service oriented.
• Knowledge of data management systems, practices, and standards; statistical analysis and modeling skills.

Responsibilities

• 55% Data Management: gather, document, and archive data and metadata for reuse by researchers and project teams.
• 20% Tool Development: develop tools for data quality analysis and metadata generation; collaborate with data scientists.
• 25% Coordination: supervise interns and fellows; train team members in data management tasks.
