Job summary

B&H Photo Video is seeking a Product Data Steward to structure and manage product specifications for bhphotovideo.com. You will normalize specifications, build templates, and ensure data is clean and usable across teams.

You will leverage SQL and data-management practices, collaborating with Web Content and other departments to keep data accurate and current across top-level product domains.

Qualifications

• Strong SQL skills (intermediate-advanced).

• Deep knowledge of a top-level product category (Photo/Video/Audio).

Job Overview:

The Product Data Steward is responsible for the structuring and management of product specifications on bhphotovideo.com in addition to their utilization by members of the B&H Web Content team with a top-level product category (e.g. Photo, Video, Audio, etc.). The PDS is an expert in their field who also has a clear grasp on the fundamentals of data management and utilization.

The PDS uses information accumulated from B&H’s decades of online information gathering alongside their own product knowledge and that of other B&H departments to normalize existing specifications and build and maintain templates for others to fill, working with relevant teams in the process to ensure utility and usability. From there, they use internal tools and database management practices (i.e. SQL) to manipulate those specifications in ways that can be used by other teams for their own purposes. The PDS ensures that product data becomes and remains clean, consistent, and functional.

• Cleans unstructured specification information into normalized values for use as data.


• Builds and maintains structured \u201Cclean specifications\u201D and information entry templates for categories included in their product domain.


• Stays up to date with industry trends for their product domain and proactively adjusts and improves workflows to account for changes.


• Collaborates with internal departments to utilize specification data for alternate purposes via internal tools and SQL queries.


• Audits existing product information from internal departments for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to B&H style to maintain data quality.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Deep knowledge of at least one of B&H’s top-level categories (Photo, Video, Audio, etc.)


• Experience developing data standards and definitions with an eye towards atomicity


• Intermediate-to-advanced SQL (advanced use of its transformational capabilities)
