Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Data Services Manager to develop data science curricula, support fellowship cohorts, and coordinate projects advancing D‑Lab’s research and instructional mission.

The role collaborates with staff, instructors, fellows, and researchers to translate emerging methods into accessible programming, maintain data systems, and ensure data security and reliable workflows. Strong leadership and advanced data skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of computational social science, research design, and multiple data forms; capable with large-scale datasets.
• Experience designing, teaching, and evaluating research training, workshops, curricula for varied learners.
• Advanced consulting skills to translate research questions into feasible plans and guide projects through implementation and validation.
• Advanced knowledge of AI tools for research including LLMs, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, and AI agents.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, teaches, and continuously improves workshops, short courses, and tutorials for researchers at varied technical levels.
• Provides instruction on large language models, prompt design, and responsible AI practices.
• Leads API-based and agentic research workflows, including tool use, orchestration, and reproducible implementations.
• Evaluates research questions, plans analyses, troubleshoots problems, and supports projects from design to dissemination.
• Develops secure, scalable data infrastructure and governance standards for research data.
