Job Description: AVNIK has an opportunity for a Data Scientist or Data Analyst to provide sustainment engineering analysis using USG Modeling & Simulation (M&S) tools for DEVCOM AvMC. BS+5Yrs of Experience or MS+3Yrs of Experience.

The candidate will join an engineering team supporting logistics, sustainment, and procurement analysis. The role requires identifying, researching, and analyzing data sources and databases to define and extract critical information for engineering analysis. The candidate will work directly with Government personnel at AvMC, clearly express ideas and concepts, and perform as part of multi-disciplinary teams, IPTs, and Working Groups.

Responsibilities

• Interface with customers to define M&S requirements
• Develop software pipelines to manage M&S environment
• Provide charts, graphs, data analysis and technical/engineering results to leadership and customers
• Interpret M&S results for customer briefing development
• Prepare and present briefings on analysis, current tasks, schedules, and goals
• Provide technical analysis on Army platform logistics and sustainment key performance metrics
• Provide input to team on discussion of technical issues, tasks, briefings, goals, potential funding, etc.
• Resolve technical M&S issues through debugging, research, and investigation
• Manage workload across multiple projects/tasks and meet delivery schedules
• Professional communication skills demonstrated on a daily basis

Education & Citizenship Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering (Aerospace, Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, etc.), Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related technical field is required and 5+ years of experience. MS degree may substitute for 2 yrs of experience. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree in accordance with the applicable contract labor category. Advanced degree is a plus. Candidate must be a US Citizen.

• Ability to clean and parse large and complex data sets
• Experience writing technical reports and developing customer briefings
• Self-starter, independent worker, strong work ethic
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills; ability to clearly communicate in discussions and written documents, and to deliver regular updates and feedback clearly and tactfully is essential.
• Must hold an Interim SECRET clearance at start and be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance

Desired Skills

• Experience applying NLP (natural language processing) (e.g., spaCy, named entity recognition) or LLM (large language model) applications to unstructured text
• Working knowledge of ML (machine learning) methods (regression, classification, neural networks) using Python libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
• Experience fitting and validating probability distributions (Weibull, exponential, lognormal) to failure and maintenance data, including goodness-of-fit testing
• Experience with optimization methods (linear or mixed-integer programming) applied to logistics or resource allocation problems
• Familiarity with Army logistics and maintenance data systems (e.g., GCSS-Army, TAMMS-A, AESIP, LMP, Army Vantage, OSMIS)
• Experience calculating sustainment metrics including operational availability (Ao), materiel availability (Am), NMC rates, and O&S cost
• Experience with visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) or cloud environments (Azure)
• Experience using USG sustainment M&S tools
• Experience working in classified or air-gapped computing environments

Additional Requirements

• Ability to successfully complete Background Investigation to include: 50 State Criminal, Education, Employment, Credit and Driving Records Checks for continued employment.
• Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance. Possession of an INTERIM SECRET security clearance is required to begin employment; Ability to maintain a SECRET security clearance is required for continued employment; US Citizenship is Required.
