About The Role

Block is looking for a Senior Data Scientist – Model Strategy Management to join the Quantitative Finance Team, a highly skilled group of data scientists, ML engineers, strategy consultants, and analysts. You will be a part of the ML Business Modeling team, supporting both Cash App and Square by leading the development of advanced predictive models and aligning data initiatives with business strategy. This role is remote, based in the U.S., with flexibility in location across different pay zones.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and deployment of predictive machine learning models for strategic business applications.
• Drive project planning, timeline management, and roadmap creation for modeling initiatives.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, data, and business teams to ensure technical solutions align with business goals.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify key drivers and guide feature engineering.
• Oversee data pipeline design and ensure smooth end-to-end model integration.
• Present complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to analytical capability building.
• Explore new AI/LLM tools to enhance analytics and business intelligence.
  
  

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data science, finance, consulting, or similar analytical roles.
• Deep understanding of statistical and machine learning modeling concepts.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python (e.g., Sklearn, Streamlit, Prefect).
• Strong project management skills with experience handling multiple high-impact projects.
• Effective communicator, skilled at translating data insights into business recommendations.
• Experience collaborating with diverse technical and business teams.
• Familiarity with Databricks, GitHub, and modern data engineering practices.

Block uses a market-based pay approach, with compensation varying by geographic zone:

• Zone A: $198,000 – $297,000 USD
• Zone B: $188,100 – $282,100 USD
• Zone C: $178,200 – $267,400 USD
• Zone D: $168,300 – $252,500 USD
