Job Description

The Principal Data Scientist is an independent statistical modeler responsible for designing and developing processes for clinical program member intervention identification and program impact measurement. This involves analyzing eligibility, medical, pharmacy administrative claims, and external data (e.g., care management, disease management, laboratory, wellness data). The role includes taking scientific responsibility for project statistical and predictive modeling, ensuring models are transitioned into production, providing strategic consultation, and employing best methods for research needs. The position may also supervise entry-level and mid-level analysts/data scientists.

Responsibilities
  • Designs advanced scientific models, including predictive models, using health claims data and statistical techniques to solve complex problems.
  • Finalizes model project deliverables, ensuring research findings are valid, reliable, and reproducible.
  • Uses and guides others in multivariate modeling software (SAS, SPSS, etc.) to create listings, summaries, and statistical tests.
  • Performs and oversees advanced predictive modeling for clinical program development and enhancement.
  • Develops automated analysis tools and production predictive modeling processes for clinical programs.
  • Mentors and coaches less experienced data scientists and analysts; may supervise exempt employees.
  • Defines data and analytics roadmaps and KPIs aligned with company goals in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Promotes data-driven decision-making organization-wide.
  • Engages stakeholders to build consensus and adoption of analytics strategies.
  • Executes complex, cross-functional analytics projects independently to support leadership decisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, or related field, or equivalent experience; HS diploma or GED required.
  • 8 years of relevant experience with large datasets, SAS, SQL, and predictive modeling.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Additional Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Highly analytical and research-oriented.
  • Expertise with SAS and SQL.
  • Proven ability to build complex predictive models.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Advanced SAS experience in UNIX environment.
  • Research Master's degree (e.g., M.S., M.P.H.) or equivalent experience.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Constant sitting, using hands, talking, hearing.
  • Frequent reaching with hands and arms.
  • Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Potential salary ranges from $108,000 to $184,000 based on experience and skills.
