Job summary

The Athletic is looking for a data scientist who will bring a deep understanding of our sportswriting and in-game experience to improve our product for subscribers. You will work with data, product, growth, and engineering to develop advanced machine learning models that understand the business and optimize workflows.

Design and implement models to predict subscriber conversion, recommend articles to users at the right time, and productionize data science pipelines.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience as a data scientist or data analyst.
• Strong Python knowledge to train models and productionize them.
• Solid knowledge of SQL and data warehouses.
• Understanding of statistics for predictive modeling.
• Ability to explain concepts and tell stories with data; cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and implement mathematical models to drive long-term product goals.
• Lead projects with hands-on analysis and modeling.
• Use quantitative analysis to understand user behavior and develop recommendations.
• Design and develop data science pipelines in production.
• Guide complex experiments.
• Cultivate an outstanding data science environment.
