Job Summary

We seek a Data Scientist to join our Life Sciences Data Science team, focusing on extracting insights from unstructured and semi-structured clinical data using NLP and ML. This role involves transforming raw clinical text into NLP-enriched data for RWE studies and the VNEHR dataset. The ideal candidate has experience with LLMs (preferably Azure OpenAI), Python ML/NLP, SQL, and cross-functional collaboration with clinicians, product, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. NLP & Machine Learning Development: Design, develop, and deploy NLP and ML models using Python to extract insights from clinical text. Leverage Azure OpenAI and other LLM frameworks to enhance data structuring and understanding.
2. Clinical Collaboration & Validation: Partner with clinical experts to validate models, ensuring high precision and accuracy. Iterate based on real-world feedback.
3. Pipeline & Productionization: Collaborate with operations to design and implement end-to-end data science pipelines, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
4. Data Analysis & Problem Solving: Work with stakeholders to identify key problems, explore data sources, and communicate findings effectively.

Qualifications

Required:

• Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or related field.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience with ML models and NLP libraries (spaCy, Scikit-learn, etc.).

Preferred:

• Experience with Azure OpenAI or large language models.
• Familiarity with EMR systems and healthcare data standards (ICD-10, SNOMED).
• Experience with cloud platforms and big data tools (Snowflake, Azure, Spark).
• Clinical text and health data experience (EMRs).

• Understanding of ML development lifecycle.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and analytical thinking.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data privacy.

Travel: Up to 1-2 times/year.
