This role independently owns analytical projects from problem framing through model deployment, applying statistical modeling and machine learning to claims and healthcare data in support of VA disability claims processing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently design, build, validate, and maintain statistical and machine learning models to support claims and healthcare data analysis.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and data validation across claims, clinical, and other healthcare datasets.

  • Manage analytical projects from problem framing through model deployment, including sprint planning, prioritization, and status reporting, with minimal oversight.

  • Collaborate with data engineers and architects to source, integrate, and validate data required for modeling and analytics.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline, modeling, and analytical issues of moderate complexity.

  • Mentor junior data scientists on modeling techniques, coding standards, and analytical best practices.

Required Qualifications
  • Eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship is required for this position under applicable federal contract requirements. Candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role, including a Public Trust clearance; an active Secret or Top Secret clearance also satisfies this requirement.

  • 3–6 years of experience in data science, statistics, or a related field.

  • Strong proficiency in Python or R for statistical modeling and data wrangling, with experience using SQL to work with large, complex datasets.

  • Experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, including classification, regression, and clustering.

  • Experience with data visualization and communicating analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, with strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.

  • Experience with Jupyter notebooks, Git, and collaborative coding workflows.

  • Experience supporting healthcare, claims, insurance, or federal programs.
