Job description

Job Title: Data Scientist III

Location Requirements: Remote (PST work hours preferred)

Job Type: Contract (7+ months with opportunity for extension)

Role Overview:
You will own the data and measurement foundation for a program across multiple brands. Build and maintain data pipelines that ingest AI-answer tracking data from various sources into the enterprise warehouse. Implement governed metric definitions as warehouse views to ensure consistency. Develop and manage executive dashboards with automated reports. Design and ship a data-access layer that facilitates querying the data through AI assistants, with documentation and vetted query templates. Conduct deep-dive analyses on search and AI-answer data, communicate findings and recommendations to marketing leadership, and bring an informed perspective on how large language models work. Your engagement will focus on build-heavy tasks initially, shifting toward analysis and thought leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Own data pipelines ingesting AI-answer tracking data from vendor APIs, Search Console, and crawler logs into the enterprise warehouse (Databricks/Athena, BigQuery).
  • Monitor data quality and maintain documentation.
  • Implement governed metric definitions as versioned warehouse views for consistent computation across consumers.
  • Build and own executive dashboards with automated weekly reporting and noise flags.
  • Design and ship a data-access layer (LLM plugin or connector) with documentation and query templates.
  • Conduct deep-dive data analyses on presence changes, search interception, citation drivers, retrieval versus content, and model update timing.
  • Communicate findings and testable recommendations in concise memos for leadership.
  • Bring current expertise on how LLM search and answer engines work.
  • Engage heavily in build tasks during the first 90 days, then transition to analysis and thought leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced SQL skills (Presto/Athena, BigQuery, Databricks SQL).
  • Python pandas API expertise.
  • Experience owning production data pipelines end to end, including monitoring and data quality.
  • Applied data science judgment, experimental design, noise and seasonality handling, difference-in-differences comparisons, and honest uncertainty communication.
  • Experience developing executive dashboards with Tableau, Looker, or equivalent, including metric governance.
  • Hands-on experience building or configuring LLM connectors, plugins, or MCP-style tools, with documentation and guardrails.
  • Excellent written communication skills for senior, non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field required.
  • 5+ years of combined data science and data engineering experience or demonstrated experience owning data products in production.
