Job summary

TDW in Salt Lake City seeks a data scientist/software engineer to design and deploy modeling and software for inline-inspection challenges. You will collaborate with Data Scientists, Software, Mechanical, Electrical, Operations teams to prototype and improve methodologies, delivering production-ready solutions.

Expect heavy use of Python, ML libraries, signal processing, and inline inspection tech such as EMAT or Ultrasonic, with Agile project management to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years OO programming, TDLC, and SDLC experience.
• 0–3 years MS Visual Studio experience.
• 0–3 years C++ experience.
• 5–10 years Python experience.
• 5–10 years in Regression Analysis and Signal Processing.
• 5–10 years ML models for detection/classification.

Responsibilities

Join T.D. Williamson, Inc. in Salt Lake City, UT (onsite) and help deliver practical, production-ready data science for inline inspection. In this role, you will design and deploy modeling and software that support detection, identification, classification, and regression of pipeline features. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to prototype and improve methodologies, with a focus on delivering solutions to inspection challenges.

What you’ll do

• Meet with stakeholders to define solutions for inline-inspection problems.
• Collaborate closely with Data Scientists plus Software, Mechanical, Electrical, Operations, and other departments to build solutions for inline-inspection workflows.
• Design, build, and deploy software in a production environment.
• Direct and collaborate on problems of varying complexity, with support from other engineers as needed.
• Develop models and software from research and concept through design, unit testing, code reviews, and life cycle support.
• Propose and implement performance optimizations and scaling strategies.
• Review existing models and propose improvements based on results and system needs.
• Handle annotation, cleaning, and technical support for data used to develop related software and models.
• Estimate development timelines and meet deadlines.
• Plan and track project work using Agile methodology and designated project software.
• Represent TDW at industry events.

Key skills and qualifications

• Good customer service skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with Python, including one or more of: PyTorch, Tensorflow, Boost, Neural Networks, and/or Scikit-learn.
• A firm grasp of data visualization for signal or sensor (non-tabular) data.
• Filtering / signal processing and simulation of signal data is preferred.
• Understanding of in-line inspection technologies, such as EMAT or Ultrasonic, is preferred.

Experience and education

• 5 to 10 years of experience with object-oriented programming, test driven development, and software development life cycle.
• 0 to 3 years experience with the MS Visual Studio development environment.
• 0 to 3 years experience with C++.
• 5 to 10 years experience with Python.
• 5 to 10 years experience with Regression Analysis.
• 5 to 10 years experience with Signal Processing.
• 5 to 10 years experience with machine learning models for detection and classification.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
