Our team at Customer Logistics Security is responsible for securing Amazon's World-Wide Operations, Physical Retail Stores and Prime Air.

We are looking for a data scientist to join our team’s efforts to help keep our customers secure. In this role, you will lead data science and Machine Learning investments to scale our security automation to gain better visibility into our security posture and drive improvements. You will innovate in driving high degrees of accuracy, precision and recall in an ocean of data. You will partner closely with Security Engineers, and Software Engineers to build scalable solutions that must operate in real-time.

Key job responsibilities

  • You will extract insights and clarity from noisy, unstructured data arriving in high-volumes.
  • You will scientifically test ways to find, measure and long-term solve potential security problems using telemetry both historical and in real-time.
  • You will lead the charge in establishing new techniques to apply Machine Learning and statistical methods to classify assets, assign ownership for assets and identify anomalies.

A day in the life

We own and drive the security of wide ranging technology for our customers like cloud applications, operational technology, robotics, drones, retail checkout systems, networks, handheld devices and legacy infrastructure.

You will work closely with security engineering and software engineers to generate and prioritize experiments, proofs-of-concepts, initiatives and shepherd/steer engineering deliverables. You will mature the practice of data science in application of security controls and automation. You will innovate to find statistical and Machine Learning methods that can be practically deployed for real-time blocking or redaction of customer data.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of data scientist or similar role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling and communication experience
  • 3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
  • Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science, or Master's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company
  • 2+ years of data visualization using AWS QuickSight, Tableau, R Shiny, etc. experience
  • Experience managing data pipelines

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
