Data Scientist I

Location: Remote in California


We have an opportunity to join the Alliance as a Data Scientist I in the Data Analytics Services Department.


WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Reporting to the Advanced Analytics Manager, this position:



  • Provides foundational support for AI and Data Science initiatives

  • Supports analytics and program evaluation across departments in collaboration with internal stakeholders


ABOUT THE TEAM


Data Analytics manages the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), and, using data science, provides Health reporting analytics and Advanced analytics. The data we collect, organize, and provide gives answers and insights that support our operation and guide future health care planning and optimization.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE



  • Master's degree or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field

  • Experience working in a health care environment

  • Experience delivering Shiny or Streamlit applications

  • Working knowledge of program evaluation methodologies and ROI analysis and/or A/B Testing

  • Working knowledge of healthcare industry data, including claims, electronic health records, and program evaluation metrics

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of data governance, data privacy regulations, and HIPAA compliance

  • Working knowledge of healthcare standards and terminologies, such as ICD-10, CPT codes, and HL7/FHIR

  • Some knowledge of generative AI, LLMs, and machine learning fundamentals, including supervised and unsupervised learning

  • Some knowledge of causal inference methods and policy evaluation techniques

  • Some knowledge of regulations and guidelines related to Medicare and/or Medi-Cal

  • Knowledge of:


    • Feature engineering, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and basic machine learning techniques

    • Data wrangling and transformation techniques in Python and/or R

    • Statistical analysis


  • Ability to:

    • Write clean, efficient, and reproducible code for data analysis and machine learning

    • Perform program evaluation and ROI analysis

    • Apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills in an analytical environment



  • Education and Experience:

    • Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or a related field (a Bachelor's degree and two additional years of experience may substitute for the Master's degree); or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying




OTHER INFORMATION



  • We are in a hybrid work environment and we anticipate that the interview process will take place remotely via Microsoft Teams.

  • While some staff may work full telecommuting schedules, attendance at quarterly company-wide events or department meetings will be expected.

  • In-office or in-community presence may be required for some positions and is dependent on business need. Details about this can be reviewed during the interview process.


The full compensation range for this position is listed by location below.

The actual compensation for this role will be determined by our compensation philosophy, analysis of the selected candidate's qualifications (direct or transferrable experience related to the position, education or training), as well as other factors (internal equity, market factors, and geographic location).


Typical areas in Zone 1: Bay Area, Sacramento, Los Angeles area, San Diego area


Typical areas in Zone 2: Fresno area, Bakersfield, Central Valley (with the exception of Sacramento), Eastern California, Eureka area


Zone 1 (Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz)
$86,203.56-$137,945.60 USD
Zone 2 (Mariposa and Merced)
$78,445.54-$125,528 USD

Available for all regular Alliance employees working more than 30 hours per week. Some benefits are available on a pro-rated basis for part-time employees. These benefits are unavailable to temporary employees while on an assignment with the Alliance.
