Job summary

IMDb is hiring a data scientist who frames business problems as science problems, selects methods fit for the data, and owns end-to-end measurement and evaluation. You will use frontier models to scale throughput and contribute to responsible AI across product teams.

Collaborating with engineers, policy partners, and operations, you will deploy models into production, monitor drift, and guide decisions on training approaches with strong leadership and analytical rigor.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical software experience
• 3+ years of data scientist or similar role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling and communication experience
• 3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques
• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
• Knowledge of machine learning concepts and their application to reasoning and problem-solving

Responsibilities

• Frame loosely defined business problems as science problems, and iterate on the approach with limited guidance.
• Establish ground truth. Design sampling, set label quality, and build datasets across behavioral, text, and catalog domains.
• Define precision, recall, and coverage, and report achievable accuracy vs. cost.
• Document failure modes, quantify error costs, and set thresholds with product and policy partners before deployment.
• Deliver methodology and analysis on medium-size projects for scientists and business partners.
• Decide whether to train in-house, fine-tune, or call a language model, based on evidence.
• Use generative AI tools to scale throughput and build scalable products.
• Ship solutions other scientists can test and reproduce.
• Partner with engineers to move models into production, define drift monitoring and retraining triggers.
• Build knowledge of team ownership and mentor teammates.
