Job summary

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
• 3 years of related experience.
• Strong knowledge of GenAI, modeling, analytics, or actuarial areas.
• Foundational GenAI knowledge: prompts, tools, RAG pipelines, grounding/attribution, hallucination mitigation.
• Experience with statistical analysis and reading/revising statistical software.

Job description

At The Travelers Companies, Inc., the data science team is using advanced statistical methods, machine learning, and Generative AI to push the organization toward the next level of intelligence. In this on-site role in Hartford, CT, you will help shape customer-experience outcomes by designing, building, and evaluating GenAI solutions in partnership with business stakeholders.

You will also support the enablement of approved GenAI tools, translating analysis and model results into clear insights for managers, peers, and business partners. This position includes experimentation with emerging AI technologies and guiding successful prototypes toward capabilities that can be scaled for production use.

Role focus

• Use advanced statistical techniques, machine learning algorithms, and Generative AI to enhance customer experience
• Work with business partners to identify challenges and opportunities for data analysis and experiments
• Design, develop, and evaluate Generative AI solutions, then help move successful prototypes toward scalable, production-ready capabilities
• Assist in implementing and enabling approved GenAI tools through hands-on partnership with users

• Serve as a mentor or resource for less experienced analytical talent, including onboarding new employees and interns
• Support intern recruiting and talent assessment efforts
• Support training and skill development initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

• Master’s degree in a STEM-related field or equivalent
• 3 years of related experience
• Strong working knowledge of modeling, GenAI, research, analytics, or actuarial (as required)
• Foundational knowledge of GenAI, including prompt design, tool use, RAG pipelines, grounding/attribution, and hallucination mitigation
• Relevant experience performing statistical analysis
• Strong knowledge of statistical techniques and the ability to read, revise, and review statistical software programs
• Ability to develop models and interpret model results
• Understanding of advanced statistics underlying data models
• Ability to apply emerging statistical procedures
• Strong knowledge in GenAI, Regression, Classification, Machine Vision, Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, and statistical modeling
• Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Decision Sciences, Actuarial Science, or a related analytical STEM field plus two years of experience, or a suitable and equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Heavy concentration in mathematics, including statistics and programming, business intelligence/analytics, and data science tools and research using large data sets
• Additional verification of specific coursework will be required

Compensation and benefits

Base salary range: USD $132,800 - $219,100 per year.

The actual salary will be determined by factors including scope, complexity, and location, as well as the candidate’s skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other conditions of employment. The comprehensive compensation and benefits program also includes eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.
