Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in applying advanced analytics techniques.
  • Demonstrated depth in data science and ML technologies (e.g., ML, operations research, statistics, data mining).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and its tools.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Strong business problem framing to translate needs into data science/AI opportunities.
  • Awareness of data governance, metadata, lineage, and responsible data use.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and frame opportunities to apply data science, ML, AI, GenAI-enabled workflows to improve decision-making and business outcomes.
  • Define expected business value, success metrics, and adoption considerations for opportunities.
  • Identify data needs and appropriate technology to solve business challenges.
  • Clean data and develop and test models.
  • Establish lifecycle management for models (MLOps).
  • Engage stakeholders to communicate progress, quantify impact, and support adoption.

The Data and AI and Enterprise AI organizations are responsible for providing data science, machine learning engineering expertise, and solution delivery across Chevron. Practitioners collaborate to drive innovation and digital transformation to support the future of energy. Data and AI capabilities support decision-making, automation, optimization, and innovation across the Chevron value chain, including Upstream, Midstream, Downstream, and enterprise functions. This role applies data science, machine learning, and AI-enabled approaches to solve business problems and deliver measurable outcomes.

The Role

The function of this role is to partner with the business to translate opportunities into data, AI, and machine learning solutions that deliver measurable business value. The successful candidate will have the skills to frame business problems, prototype and build data science and AI-enabled products, and support adoption of scalable solutions.

As a Data Scientist, you will:
  • Identify and frame opportunities to apply data science, machine learning, AI, GenAI-enabled workflows, and related technologies to improve decision-making, workflow efficiency, automation, and business outcomes.
  • Define the expected business value, success measures, and adoption considerations for proposed opportunities.
  • Identify needed data and appropriate technology to solve identified business challenges.
  • Clean data and develop and test models.
  • Establish the life cycle management process for models.
  • Engage business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams to communicate progress, quantify impact, support adoption, value and identify additional opportunities.
  • Provide technical mentoring in modeling and analytics technologies, the specifics of the modeling process, and general consulting skills.
Requirements
  • Experience Minimum 5 years of experience in applying advanced analytics techniques.
  • Skills Demonstrated depth applied data science and ML data science technologies (e.g., machine learning, operations research, statistics, data mining)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and tools in its ecosystem
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Strong business problem framing skills, with the ability to translate business needs into data science, AI, and machine learning opportunities that deliver measurable value.
  • Awareness of data quality, data governance, metadata, lineage, and responsible use of enterprise data in analytics and AI solutions.
  • Familiarity with model lifecycle management and MLOps practices, including model documentation, monitoring, performance management, retraining, and responsible deployment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across functional and geographic areas and explain technical concepts to business audiences.
  • Responsible AI mindset, including consideration of privacy, security, transparency, fairness, human oversight, and appropriate governance when developing or applying AI-enabled solutions.
Preferred
  • domain experience in upstream, midstream, downstream, or enterprise functions, with demonstrated ability to learn and apply business context quickly.
Preferred Education
  • Minimum B.S. or M.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related quantitative discipline.
