Job summary

Matlen Silver seeks an Interim Data Science Leader in Atlanta to bridge data science, product, and business teams during a transitional period. You will provide strategic and technical leadership for the Pro Data Science organization, aligning data-driven initiatives with priority outcomes and measurable value.

Position Title:Data, Analytics & Business Intelligence - Data Scientist

Location: Atlanta Georgia 30339

Duration: 06 Months (Possible Extension/Conversion)

Must Haves

• 8+ years of experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams, programs, or large-scale analytics initiatives.
• Deep expertise in machine learning, predictive modeling, statistical analysis, experimental design, and MLOps best practices.
• Proven ability to connect complex analytical solutions to business strategy and measurable outcomes.
• Experience influencing senior leaders and driving alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong program and project management skills with a track record of delivering complex initiatives from concept through implementation.
• Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for business audiences.
• Experience working in Agile environments and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced organization.
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and driving adoption of data-driven solutions

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Interim Data Science Leader to provide strategic and technical leadership for the Pro Data Science organization during a transitional period. This assignment will serve as the bridge between data science, product, and business teams, ensuring data-driven initiatives align with organizational priorities and deliver measurable business value.

• Serve as the primary liaison between Data Science, Product, Sales, Merchandising, and other business stakeholders to align priorities and strategic objectives.
• Translate complex business challenges into data science opportunities, defining clear roadmaps, success metrics, and delivery milestones.
• Communicate analytical insights, model outcomes, and business impact to executive leadership through clear, actionable storytelling.
• Evaluate the adoption, effectiveness, and business value of data science products, models, and analytical solutions.
• Establish and manage prioritization frameworks that balance innovation, foundational capabilities, and near-term business impact.
• Partner with leadership to evaluate resource allocation, sequencing, and trade-offs across active and planned initiatives.
• Conduct technical reviews of machine learning models, statistical methodologies, feature engineering processes, and model evaluation frameworks.
• Promote best practices in model governance, explain ability, bias mitigation, validation, monitoring, and performance measurement.
• Ensure data science solutions are scalable, reliable, and production-ready through strong technical oversight and quality standards.
• Provide program and delivery leadership across existing data science initiatives to ensure successful execution against timelines and objectives.
• Remove obstacles, clarify requirements, and align cross-functional teams to accelerate project delivery and business outcomes.
