Job summary

Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. (SPA) in Alexandria, VA, seeks a Data Scientist to develop analytic products and services using advanced data science techniques for CAPE/DASH support.

The role is onsite to collaborate with the OSW Data Science team and deliver statistical analyses and visualizations. A STEM degree is required, with 3+ years of hands-on data science experience; a Secret clearance with TS/SCI eligibility is expected; master's preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, operations research, computer science, data science, or other STEM disciplines.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience applying data science techniques such as statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, data/database engineering, machine learning, and visualization.
  • Secret clearance with the ability to secure a Top-Secret and SCI eligibility.
  • Able to work fully onsite based on client needs.

The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

Group W provides wargaming, warfare modeling and simulation, software development, data analytics, and operations research/system analysis support to the national security mission. As a leader in the fields of campaign, mission, and wargaming analysis, we embrace the cycle of research paradigm, continually seeking to improve the multi-method application of tools, data, methods, and techniques to generate credible and resilient insights to inform decisions on the Department’s most challenging issues spanning CONOPs, acquisitions, force structures, tactics, and strategies. Group W is the developer and maintainer of the Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM), the authoritative M &S tool accepted by the Joint Analytic Community for analysis of theater-level, multi-domain, joint warfare. Similarly, we developed and manage the Standard Wargame Integration and Facilitation Tool (SWIFT) for OSW as an adaptable environment to support joint force combatants’ wargaming requirements.

We have an immediate need for a Data Scientist to provide onsite support in Alexandria, VA.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, operations research, computer science, data science, or other STEM disciplines.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience applying data science techniques such as statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, data/database engineering, machine learning, and visualization.
  • Secret clearance with the ability to secure a Top‑Secret and SCI eligibility.
  • Able to work fully onsite based on client needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • 4+ years of hands‑on experience with applying data science techniques.
  • Master’s degree in mathematics, operations research, computer science, or other applicable STEM disciplines.
  • Programming competency in R, Python, or other languages suitable for managing and analyzing large datasets.
  • Operational experience in a military service or DoW environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an integrated team and adept at interfacing with clients.
Pay Range Information

Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Virginia, Pay Transparency Salary range: USD $105,000.00/Yr. - USD $125,000.00/Yr.
