Job summary

The Division of Data Science and Society (DSS) at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Data and Information Sciences (SDIS) is seeking a full-time Professor of the Practice in data science. The role leads the graduate capstone experience for the online Master of Applied Data Science (MADS) and the residential MS in Data Science, and serves as the faculty lead for MADS.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field.
• Master’s degree with substantial professional experience in data science practice.
• Strong record of graduate-level teaching and mentoring; ability to teach online is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of the graduate capstone course and supervise capstone projects.
• Teach DATA courses in the MADS program and serve as instructor of record for the capstone.
• Serve on the Admissions Committee for MADS and participate in admissions decisions.
• Collaborate with program staff to improve curriculum and coordinate with the online program management vendor.
• Oversee ongoing curriculum quality improvements based on feedback and support summer on-campus immersion.
