Role Overview

This is a unique 50/50 role where you will be expected to split your time between hands-on technical work and leading a small team of data scientists. As a key player in the Data Science team, you will work closely with senior leaders to develop and deploy advanced predictive models, particularly in the areas of risk, engagement, and anomaly detection.

The position requires both technical expertise and management experience, with the opportunity to build and refine models that drive important business decisions. This role will report directly to the Director of Data Science and provide a clear pathway to senior leadership within the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of data scientists, overseeing their development and ensuring the successful execution of key projects.
  • Design and develop advanced risk models to predict financial outcomes, such as loan defaults and engagement with financial products.
  • Build predictive models that help the company identify customer behaviors and opportunities for growth, including marketing and acquisition models.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, to deploy models in production and refine them through testing and iteration.
  • Present complex technical findings in an accessible and compelling way to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the end-to-end model-building process, from data collection and cleaning to deployment and monitoring.

Skills Required to Be Successful

  • Strong technical skills in Python, SQL, and Snowflake, with a solid understanding of data modeling and machine learning techniques.
  • Experience building and deploying financial models, particularly in areas like risk prediction (e.g., credit risk, loan default) and customer engagement.
  • Leadership experience: At least 3 years of experience managing a team of data scientists or similar professionals.
  • A strong background in finance or fintech, with a deep understanding of consumer finance, loans, credit cards, and financial products.
  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
  • Degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics). A Master’s or PhD is highly preferred.
