Job summary

Nissan is seeking a Data Science Intern to join our Smyrna, TN team for a 12-week full-time program. You will work with AI technologies and data analytics to improve manufacturing performance and throughput, applying data-driven decision making to optimize operations in a world-class automotive environment.

You'll develop AI-powered tools, analyze downtime, support CMMS enhancements, and collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree in data science, CS, AI, ML, IS, or related field.
• Junior, Senior, or Master’s students starting the upcoming term.
• Strong interest in AI, analytics and manufacturing technologies.
• Experience with Python, SQL, C++ or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher and willingness to provide transcripts during application.

A Day in the Life:

• Develop AI-powered tools and solutions that improve manufacturing efficiency and operational performance.
• Support root cause analysis activities by leveraging data analytics and AI technologies to identify and resolve process issues.
• Analyze downtime events and manufacturing performance data to uncover improvement opportunities.
• Assist with enhancements to Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and related reporting tools.
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to implement data-driven continuous improvement initiatives.

Who We’re Looking For: Required:

• Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Students entering their Junior, Senior, or Master's program at the start of the upcoming academic term.
• Strong computer and technical skills with an interest in AI, analytics, and manufacturing technologies.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL, C++, or similar technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Interest in applying AI and data science techniques to real-world manufacturing challenges.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with networking, databases, or industrial systems is a plus.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems is preferred.
• GPA of 3.0 or above (Candidates will be required to provide an official or unofficial transcript during the application process for verification.)
• Ability to perform work onsite at Smyrna, TN.
