Job summary

Mount Sinai Morningside in New York is looking for a Senior Data Science Analyst III who will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop analytics and business intelligence solutions that support strategic planning and decision-making. Description

Hybrid/onsite position requiring 2 days onsite per week. Location: 150 E 42nd Street, New York, NY.

Senior Data Science Analyst III role collaborating with stakeholders across the organization to develop analytics and business intelligence (BI) solutions that support strategic planning, decision‑making, goal setting, and performance measurement. Demonstrates advanced understanding of healthcare domain and technical data manipulation/analytic development skills, impacting patient community within Mount Sinai Health System. Serves as mentor to others, leads project initiatives, focusing primarily on Clinical Command Center projects that generate centralized, actionable intelligence to enhance health system operations.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes data requests using information technology, enrollment, claims, pharmacy, clinical, contract, medical management, financial, administrative and other corporate data from both modeled and disparate internal and external sources.
  • Works with departmental staff to identify reporting and/or business intelligence tool requirements.
  • Identifies necessary data, data sources, and methodologies.
  • Collects, organizes, integrates, analyzes and interprets data.
  • Leverages advanced statistical analysis methods to create insightful recommendations and conclusions communicated to stakeholders.
  • Identifies and addresses expected and unforeseen data complexities to mitigate impact on analytic outcomes and associated business decisions. Improves data quality where possible within analytical models; feeds quality issues back to IT or data stewards.
  • Develops and may present tools, reports, analyses and findings to senior management and other stakeholders as scheduled or requested.
  • Responsible for one or more of the following stakeholder groups:
  • Clinical Command Center – assists in developing tools and analyses to support patient throughput, clinical staffing, and hospital operational awareness.
  • Revenue Cycle Management – assists in developing and maintaining tools and analyses related to billing and payment management, denial appeals, and provider reporting.
  • Takes a proactive liaison/analyst role for internal stakeholders, translating needs into reporting and analytic solutions.
  • Effectively communicates with stakeholders and customers, ensuring requests are properly triaged, recorded, and tracked.
  • Adheres to corporate standards for performance metrics, data collection, data integrity, query design, and reporting format to ensure high quality output.
  • Helps identify and understand data from internal and external sources for competitive, scenario, and performance analyses, and financial modeling to gain member/provider insight into new and existing processes and business opportunities.
  • Works closely with IT on ongoing improvement of Mount Sinai’s integrated data warehouse, driven by strategic and business needs, ensuring data and reporting consistency.
  • Develops and maintains project work plans, including critical tasks, milestones, timelines, interdependencies, and contingencies; tracks and reports progress; keeps stakeholders apprised.
  • Provides technical support to data analytics functions across varied business units, offering expertise on selection, development, and implementation of reporting and BI tools tied to business unit reporting requirements; creates new BI reports and interactive dashboards as needed.
  • Prepares clear, well‑organized project-specific documentation, including analytic methods used, key decision points, and caveats, with sufficient detail to support comprehension and replication.
  • Ensures customers are adequately trained to use self‑service BI tools and dashboards.
  • Mentors level I and II Analysts, teaching others to define meaningful process and performance measures, develop and document workflows, and generate and use tools effectively.
  • Shares development and process knowledge with other analysts to assure redundancy and build core analytical strength.
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency in process improvement principles and methodologies, applying them in responsibilities to support a process‑focused approach.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • BA or BS degree minimum, in a relevant field of study; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7 years minimum, higher preferred, in analytics development expertise, preferably in healthcare or a health provider, health plan, or accountable care organization.
  • Working knowledge of a health care EMR such as Epic/Clarity, aCW, etc.; a payor claims system such as Facets, Amisys, etc.; or a hospital/provider system such as IDX, Soarian, etc.
  • Experience in a health plan or consulting actuarial, financial reporting or medical economics department highly valuable.
  • Experience as a nurse informaticist highly valuable.
  • Experience in healthcare provider analytics related to revenue modeling, managed care contracting, population management, case management, clinical or financial decision report.
  • PhD, MD or DO program may be substituted for three years of experience.
General Skills and Competencies
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory, insurance and ethical standards regarding safety of patients, employees, and property; identifies contingency plans for potential risks.
  • Strong data mining skills using SQL, R, Python, SAS, Java/MapReduce, Aster, etc.
  • Experience in JavaScript/TypeScript strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to Palantir Foundry platform preferred.
  • Prior experience working in Agile teams a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to perform complex analysis and make recommendations based on statistical inferences; understanding of wide variety of analytical/statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence products such as Tableau, Information Builders, Dimensional Insights, SAP/Business Objects, SAS, MicroStrategy, etc.
  • General understanding of ETL tools such as SSIS, DataStage, PowerCenter, etc.
  • Advanced analytical, financial and technical skills needed to perform complex analysis and data modeling using sophisticated report writing and data management tools.
  • Capability to exercise critical thinking and logical reasoning; understand conceptual framework and database relationships underlying healthcare data.
  • Creative thinker with excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively engage varying audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate goals, plan and implement processes to achieve them, recognize and assess confounding variables, anticipate consequences, and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills (e.g., mediating, mentoring, teaching) required to serve internal and external clients effectively, and manage diverse, complex relationships and activities.

Compensation

Salary range: $106,108 – $174,720.09 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need. This range does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay, or other compensation or benefits.
