This position is hybrid/onsite. Requires 2 days onsite a week.

Location: 150 E 42nd Street, New York, NY.

The Data Science Analyst III is a senior role, collaborating with stakeholders across the organization to develop sophisticated analytics and tools to provide information, insights, and BI solutions that contribute to sound strategic planning, decision‑making, goal setting, and effective performance measurement. The role demonstrates a solid understanding of the healthcare domain, technical data manipulation, and analytic development skills, impacting the patient community of the Mount Sinai Health System. Serves as mentor to others in the Data Science team and leads project initiatives. Primary projects involve the Clinical Command Center, generating centralized, actionable intelligence to enhance Health System operations.

Responsibilities

Analyze data requests using information technology, enrollment, claims, pharmacy, clinical, contract, medical management, financial, administrative, and other corporate data from modeled and disparate internal and external sources.
Work with departmental staff to identify requirements for reporting and/or business intelligence tools.
Identify necessary data, data sources, and methodologies.
Collect, organize, integrate, analyze, and interpret data.
Leverage advanced statistical analysis methods to create insightful recommendations and conclusions communicated to stakeholders.
Identify and address expected and unforeseen data complexities to mitigate impact on analytic outcomes and associated business decisions; improve data quality where possible and feed data quality issues back to IT or identified data stewards.
Develop and present tools, reports, analyses, and findings to senior management as scheduled or requested.
Responsible for stakeholder groups including:

Clinical Command Center – develop tools and analyses to support patient throughput, clinical staffing, and hospital operational awareness.
Revenue Cycle Management – develop and maintain tools and analyses related to billing, payment management, denial appeals, and provider reporting.

Takes a proactive role as liaison/analyst for internal stakeholders, translating their needs into reporting and analytic solutions.
Effectively communicate with stakeholders and customers, ensuring all requests are properly triaged, recorded, and tracked.
Adhere to corporate standards for performance metrics, data collection, data integrity, query design, and reporting format to ensure high‑quality, meaningful analytic output.
Help identify and understand data from internal and external sources for competitive, scenario, and performance analyses, and financial modeling to gain member/provider insight into new and existing processes and business opportunities.
Work closely with IT on ongoing improvement of Mount Sinai’s integrated data warehouse, ensuring data and reporting consistency throughout the organization.
Develop and maintain project work plans, including critical tasks, milestones, timelines, interdependencies, and contingencies; track and report progress; keep stakeholders apprised of project status.
Provide high degree of technical support to data analytics functions across business units, and technical expertise on selection, development, and implementation of BI tools tied to reporting requirements; create new BI reports and interactive dashboards as required.
Prepare clear, well‑organized project‑specific documentation, including analytic methods used, key decision points, and caveats, with sufficient detail to support comprehension and replication.
Ensure customers are adequately trained to use self‑service BI tools and dashboards.
Mentor level I and II Analysts, teaching others how to define meaningful process and performance measures, develop and document workflows, and generate and use tools and reports effectively.
Share development and process knowledge with other analysts to build redundancy and maintain analytical strength within the organization.
Demonstrate advanced proficiency with process improvement principles and methodologies in support of a process‑focused approach.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

BA or BS degree minimum in a relevant field of study; Master’s degree preferred.
7+ years minimum in analytics development, preferably in health care or health provider/plan/accountable care organization. Additional preferences include: working knowledge of a health care EMR (Epic/Clarity, aCW, etc.), payor claims system (Facets, Amisys, etc.), or hospital/provider system (IDX, Soarian, etc.).
Experience in health plan or consulting actuarial, financial reporting, or medical economics departments highly valuable.
Experience as a nurse informaticist highly valuable.
Experience in healthcare provider analytics related to revenue modeling, managed care contracting, population management, case management, clinical or financial decision reporting.
PhD, MD, or DO program may substitute for three years of experience.

General Skills and Competencies

Ensure compliance with regulatory, insurance, and ethical standards regarding safety of patients, employees, and property; identify contingency plans for potential risks.
Strong data mining skills using tools such as SQL, R, Python, SAS, Java/MapReduce, Aster, etc.
Experience in JavaScript/TypeScript strongly preferred.
Exposure to Palantir Foundry platform preferred.
Prior experience working in Agile teams a plus.
Strong analytical skills with ability to perform complex analysis and make recommendations based on statistical inferences; experience with a wide variety of analytical or statistical methods.
Strong working knowledge of Business Intelligence products such as Tableau, Information Builders, Dimensional Insights, SAP/Business Objects, SAS, MicroStrategy, etc.
General understanding of ETL tools like SSIS, Data Stage, PowerCenter, etc.
Advanced analytical, financial and technical skills needed to perform complex analysis and data modeling using sophisticated report writing and data management tools.
Ability to exercise critical thinking and logical reasoning, and understand conceptual framework and database relationships underlying health care data.
Creative problem solving skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with varying audiences.
Ability to articulate goals, plan and implement processes to achieve those goals, recognize and assess implications of confounding variables, anticipate consequences, and meet deadlines.
Advanced interpersonal skills required to service internal and external clients effectively, managing diverse and complex relationships and activities.
