Data Protection and Privacy – Assistant Director (Data Risk and Incident Manager)

Risk Management helps our organization identify, manage, and monitor risks related to independence, conflicts, compliance, security, and ethics, working closely with all parts of the organization.

The opportunity

In a rapidly evolving connected world, managing data risks and opportunities is crucial. As a Data Risk Manager, you will make informed decisions on risk management, contributing to EY’s long-term goal of building a better working world and offering opportunities for career growth.

Your key responsibilities

You will support the development, implementation, and monitoring of data protection activities, manage the firm’s confidential information inventory, investigate data incidents, coordinate responses across functions, interpret laws and policies, and report activities to stakeholders. You will also collaborate with legal, IT, investigations, and leadership teams to ensure compliance and effective data protection practices.

Skills and attributes for success
  • Lead the Data Risk Management function, including investigating data incidents, maintaining information inventories, responding to data access requests, and designing controls in collaboration with Information Security.
  • Develop and update data protection policies, guidance, and training to reflect evolving laws and standards.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization, including legal, risk, and client teams, to enhance data protection efforts.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the field and participate in ad hoc projects.
Qualifications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of data protection issues and regulatory environment.
  • Project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Investigative mindset and ability to work under pressure.
  • Discretion, decision-making ability, and cultural intelligence.
  • Organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Experience with data protection technologies preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; graduate degree preferred.
  • 4-6+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred qualifications
  • Knowledge of global data protection laws and standards.
  • Understanding of technology trends related to data security.
  • Privacy certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, or CDPSE.
