Leon Capital Group, a multi-billion-dollar holding company with operations in healthcare, real estate, and financial services, is building an AI-native operating model within its Financial Services Group.

The Data Platform & Machine Learning Engineer will own the data platform and build the first ML models atop it, creating provenance-tracked data foundations for scalable AI products across portfolio companies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building data systems end-to-end, ideally as an early or founding data hire at a startup where you owned the whole data function.
• Strong data engineering fundamentals: schema design, ETL/ELT pipeline architecture, and PostgreSQL production experience.
• Proven experience integrating against messy enterprise systems and flat-file or SFTP feeds with no clean API.
• Hands-on document extraction and structuring experience.
• Comfort owning data infrastructure in Azure and AWS; stand up warehouse and pipelines without a dedicated platform team.
• Experience handling regulated data (PHI, financial) with secure practices.
• Applied machine learning and statistical modeling depth: feature work, model evaluation, calibration, and risk reasoning.
• Working fluency with LLM orchestration and retrieval-augmented generation.
• Excellent judgment under ambiguity and prioritization across portfolios.

Responsibilities

• Design and own the canonical data model and warehouse, built to remain ours regardless of vendors.
• Build the data platform and models as reusable patterns across portfolio companies.
• Create ingestion pipelines from hostile, heterogeneous sources into our schema with full provenance.
• Stand up judgment capture from the first transaction as labeled training data.
• Lay groundwork for risk and recommendation models: feature engineering and training-set construction.
• Build validation, monitoring, and data lineage to catch quality issues before models or decisions.
• Enforce data ownership and portability across vendor outputs.
• Partner with Forward-Deployed Engineer to supply models, data, and interfaces.
• Collaborate with IT and security on regulated-data handling and secrets management.
