Job summary

Wood Mackenzie is seeking a Software Engineer to join the team responsible for the core data platform supporting valuation and analytics products. This backend data engineering role focuses on Python, PostgreSQL/PostGIS and Linux, developing data pipelines and data-quality controls for downstream products.

You will design, develop and maintain ETL pipelines, optimize geospatial data schemas, and collaborate with data science and GIS colleagues to deliver reliable data products across energy

Qualifications

• Experience writing production-grade Python software.
• Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including query optimization.
• Experience with PostGIS or similar geospatial databases.
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/data-engineering pipelines.
• Ability to process large/complex datasets.
• Experience implementing data validation and quality controls.
• Working knowledge of Linux administration, scripting and automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain Python-based ETL pipelines for large geospatial and energy datasets.
• Build and optimise PostgreSQL/PostGIS schemas, SQL queries and spatial data workflows.
• Develop automated processes for data ingestion, validation, transformation and promotion.
• Monitor data quality and investigate issues affecting data accuracy and reliability.
• Maintain Linux-based data-processing environments, jobs and automation tooling.
• Collaborate with product, GIS and data science teams to deliver reliable data products.
• Diagnose pipeline and database issues and implement maintainable solutions.
• Contribute to documentation and engineering practices.
