Job summary

Wood Mackenzie is seeking a Software Engineer for the core data platform handling valuation and analytics data. You will design, develop, and maintain backend data pipelines and geospatial workflows using Python, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, and Linux. This role focuses on data engineering rather than front-end development.

You will collaborate with product, GIS and data science teams to ensure high-quality data products across energy, renewables and infrastructure datasets.

Qualifications

• Proven Python development experience with robust software tooling.
• Strong PostgreSQL design, queries and performance tuning skills.
• Experience with PostGIS or equivalent geospatial databases.
• Experience building ETL or data-engineering pipelines.
• Experience processing large/complex datasets and ensuring data quality.
• Linux administration, scripting and automation experience.
• Clear communication and collaboration across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain Python-based ETL pipelines for large geospatial and energy datasets.
• Build and optimise PostgreSQL/PostGIS schemas, SQL queries and spatial workflows.
• Develop automated processes for data ingestion, validation, transformation and promotion.
• Monitor data quality and investigate data issues affecting accuracy and reliability.
• Maintain Linux-based data-processing environments, jobs and automation tooling.
• Support data engineering across energy infrastructure, land, oil and gas, renewables and carbon datasets.
• Collaborate with product, GIS and data science teams to deliver reliable data products.
• Diagnose pipeline, database and processing issues and implement maintainable solutions.
• Contribute to documentation and engineering best practices.
