Job summary

Jobtailor in New York City seeks a senior Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data platforms for enterprise warehousing, analytics, and reporting.

You will build end-to-end ETL pipelines, administer Snowflake, and enable BI with Power BI, Tableau, or Cognos. Strong SQL and Python with finance data domain experience are required.

Qualifications

3–5+ years of Data Engineering experience required.
Finance domain experience in investment management or related firms is preferred.
Bachelor's degree in CS, mathematics, statistics or related field; advanced degree preferred.

Job description

Lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data platforms for enterprise warehousing, analytics, and reporting
Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end distributed data pipelines
Build scalable data transformation for enterprise data ingestion, transformation, and loading using ETL frameworks and cloud-native tools
Architect and administer Snowflake data warehouses, including performance tuning, resource management, and security configurations
Design and develop scalable BI solutions using Power BI or other reporting tools such as Tableau and Cognos
Develop and enforce data quality, data governance, and metadata management practices
Partner with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions
Maintain documentation and follow SDLC and DevOps best practices
Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and drive continuous improvement in data engineering standards and platform reliability

Requirements

3–5+ years of Data Engineering experience required
Prior experience working in the finance domain, such as an investment bank, asset management firm, or hedge fund
Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related engineering field required
Advanced degree preferred
Hands‑on experience with Snowflake, dbt, FiveTran/Census, and other ETL tools
Expertise in SQL and Python or other scripting languages
Working knowledge of investment data vendors and datasets, including Bloomberg, MSCI, Compustat, Worldscope, I/B/E/S, FTSE/Russell, and IDC
Understanding of investment management data domains, including security masters, reference data, indexes, positions, trades, performance, and analytics across asset classes
Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail
Comfort working in cross‑functional settings with business and technology teams
Experience with C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework, SQL Server, JavaScript, service‑oriented architecture, Web APIs, and frontend frameworks is a plus
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future
