Job summary

The Financial Times is seeking an experienced data journalist to cover US politics, economics and financial news. This full-time role involves self-sufficient storytelling from pitch to publish, collaborating with US editors and colleagues worldwide to deliver data-driven journalism.

You should have a strong data journalism portfolio, be proficient in R or Python for data sourcing and analysis, and be able to explain quantitative work to non-specialists.

Qualifications

• Strong portfolio in data journalism, ideally focused on US politics, economics or finance
• Ability to pitch, write and deliver original data-driven stories
• Experience using data sourcing techniques (web scraping, APIs, large databases) with R or Python
• Excellent communication skills to explain quantitative analysis to non-specialists
• Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to evolving methods

Responsibilities

• Cover US politics, economics and financial news as part of FT’s data journalism team
• Collaborate with US editors and North America colleagues and with London, Hong Kong, and others
• Produce data-driven journalism from pitch to final product
• Partner with Visual & Data Journalism team to apply data methods across stories
• Contribute to storytelling that provides a global perspective for US and international readers
